# Host your Bolt project: publishing, plans, and limits

> Bolt includes built-in hosting, so you can publish a project without a server or third-party account. Learn how publishing works, plus limits on hosting usage.

## What is hosting?

Hosting simply means putting your project on the internet so other people can visit it as a website. When you “publish” a project, Bolt takes the files you’ve created and makes them available at a live web address anyone can open in their browser.

Bolt hosting lets you publish your project to a live URL in seconds, with a free `.bolt.host` domain included. No third-party account is required: Bolt handles everything.

## Who can use Bolt hosting?

All Bolt users, both Free and Pro, can publish their projects to a `.bolt.host` domain, although [custom domains](/bolt-cloud/domains) are only available for Pro users.

## Key hosting topics

* [Publish your project to a live website](/bolt-cloud/hosting/publish): Publish a project to a live URL, republish after changes, or unpublish your site.
* [Bolt Cloud hosting plans](/bolt-cloud/hosting/plans): Compare hosting plans, including what the free tier includes, what Pro adds, and when a project needs a higher tier.
* [Hosting analytics](/bolt-cloud/hosting/analytics): See visits, page views, and referrers for your published app, and what the numbers do and don't include.
* [Publishing issues](/troubleshooting/publish-issues): Fix problems with publishing your project.

## Hosting limits

Each plan includes a certain amount of hosting usage. If you hit your plan's limit, your site stops displaying publicly until your usage resets at the start of your next billing cycle.

If you're on a paid plan, you can [increase your hosting limits](/bolt-cloud/hosting/plans#increase-hosting-limits) to accommodate more traffic.

<Info>
Free plan sites also show a **Made in Bolt** badge. Upgrading to a paid plan removes it. See [Made in Bolt badge](/bolt-cloud/hosting/plans#made-in-bolt-badge) for details.

## Publishing and managing projects on Netlify hosting

If your current projects are published to Netlify, or you'd like to publish new projects to Netlify, see the following resources:

* [Netlify FAQs, including how to unpublish a project that was published before August 14, 2025](/integrations/netlify#netlify-faqs-and-troubleshooting)
* [How to publish new projects to Netlify instead of Bolt hosting](/integrations/netlify#publish-new-projects-to-netlify-instead-of-bolt-hosting)

* [How to unpublish a site published to Netlify](/integrations/netlify#unpublish-a-project-with-netlify-hosting)

## Downgrading from Pro hosting to Free hosting

If you downgrade your paid plan to the Free plan, you're also downgrading to free plan hosting. This has two effects:

* You'll no longer be able to publish to a [custom domain](/bolt-cloud/domains/connect).
* The [Made in Bolt badge](/bolt-cloud/hosting/plans#made-in-bolt-badge) will appear on your project previews and published sites.

Any custom domains you already own will stay in your account, and any sites you currently have published to those domains stay online. But you won't be able to republish or reconnect a custom domain while on the free plan.

If you upgrade back to a paid plan, you can republish to a custom domain again. If you stay on the free plan, you can only publish your project to a `bolt.host` address.

The "Made in Bolt" badge is added after the downgrade takes effect (typically when the current billing period ends) and you [re-publish your site](/bolt-cloud/hosting/publish#publish-changes-to-your-live-site).
