# Domain issues

> Troubleshooting for errors connecting or configuring a custom domain in Bolt.

If you run into an error while connecting or configuring a domain, find the specific error below for steps to resolve it.

## Check Bolt's status

Before troubleshooting, check the [Bolt status page](https://status.bolt.new/) for any active incidents. If Bolt is experiencing a known issue, check your project again after the issue resolves to see if that also resolves your problem.

## "Another project is already using this domain" error

If you see this error, it usually means the domain is still connected to a previous deployment on another hosting service. This happens when the domain wasn't fully removed from that service's domain management settings.

**If your domain was purchased through Netlify:** Netlify usually lets you [disconnect a domain from your project](https://answers.netlify.com/t/support-guide-another-site-is-using-this-domain-verifying-domain-ownership-for-netlify-production-domain/13765) directly. If you've removed the domain from your Netlify projects and still see the error in Bolt, [contact Netlify support](https://www.netlify.com/support/) so they can update the domain settings.

**If your domain was purchased through another provider:**

1. Log in to the hosting service where the domain was previously connected.
2. Go to the domain management settings.
3. Check if your domain is still listed or connected to any old projects.
4. Remove the domain if it's still connected.
5. Return to your Bolt dashboard and try connecting the domain again.

<Tip>
  Domain records can be confusing, and that's completely normal. If you run into any trouble, reach out to your registrar's support team for help.
</Tip>

## You don't know how to enter your DNS information with your registrar

Most registrars have support teams that can help you point the domain you registered with them. If you provide a screenshot of the information on the DNS configuration screen, including your ALIAS record value or A record value, they should be able to help.

<Tip>
  Double-check you're creating an **ALIAS** record, not an **AAAA** record. Although the names are similar, AAAA is for IPv6 addresses and won't connect your domain.
</Tip>

## Your domain still shows a DNS warning after 24 hours

If your domain's status still shows a warning after the typical setup window, see [Temporary issues after connecting a domain](/bolt-cloud/domains/ssl-https#temporary-issues-after-connecting-a-domain) and confirm your registrar is pointing to Bolt correctly.

## Still stuck?

If your domain still isn't working correctly, [contact support](/troubleshooting/contact-support).
