Sharing lets you invite collaborators to your Bolt project and control the level of access they have. You can give collaborators view-only access, let them edit and prompt, or invite them to own the project with you. Sharing is available on all plans. Once you’ve invited collaborators, see Collaborate with others to learn about working together in real time and sharing integrations.
On mobile: When you’re in a project, you’ll see Share next to your project’s name. Tap it to copy your project link, invite collaborators, and control access to your project.

Access by role

By default, you’re the owner of any project you create. Assign collaborators a role that matches the level of access you want them to have. The Co-owner role only appears in Invite as when every person you’re inviting is a member of your team. If you’re on a Teams plan and invite members outside your team, or if you’re on a personal plan, only the Viewer and Editor roles are available.
Environment variables are values your project uses to store sensitive information, like API keys and authentication tokens, without exposing them in your code. To keep your project secure, Bolt only allows Editors and Co-owners to view environment variables. If a project relies on environment variables, parts of it may not load or work as expected for Viewers, because there’s no way to run the project in the browser while keeping those values hidden. In that case, Viewers see this message: You have view-only access to this project. Environment variables aren't available in view-only mode, so some features may not work.
When collaborators prompt in a project, Bolt uses tokens from the prompter’s account rather than from the project owner’s.

Invite collaborators to a personal project

On a personal plan, you can invite collaborators by email and manage their access to your project. You can also copy the project link and share it with collaborators who’ve accepted your invite and members of your team.

  1. In Bolt, open your project.
  2. In the upper-right corner of the screen, click Share. The Share your project dialog opens.
  3. In the email field, enter the address of each collaborator you want to invite.
  4. Set Invite as to the level of access you want to give them, then click Send invite.
The collaborator’s status shows as Pending until they accept the invite.

Invite collaborators to a Teams project

On a team, all team members have access to your project by default. When sharing, you can:
  • Invite individual members of your team to have access under a different role
  • Invite collaborators who aren’t members of your team
Inviting collaborators outside your team requires external sharing to be turned on in your team’s workspace settings. If you’re a team admin, you can manage this in your Team settings.
You can also change the access level for your entire team.

  1. In Bolt, open your project.
  2. In the upper-right corner of the screen, click Share. The Share your project dialog opens.
  3. In the email field, enter the address of each collaborator you want to invite, or click the team to select from your team members. You can invite team members as Viewers, Editors, or Co-owners. You can invite people outside your team as Viewers or Editors only.
  4. Set Invite as to the level of access you want to give them, then click Send invite.

How collaborators accept your invite

When you invite a collaborator to your project, they get an email that contains the project link.

To see your project, collaborators must have a Bolt account and be signed in. If they don’t have an account or aren’t signed in, opening the invitation prompts them to create an account or sign in to their existing account. After they sign in, they can see or interact with your project based on the role you assigned them. If they close the project, they can find it again by clicking Shared with you in the left navigation menu.

On any plan, you can copy a project link to share with collaborators who’ve accepted your invite. On a Teams plan, you can also share it with your team members.
  1. In Bolt, open your project.
  2. In the upper-right corner of the screen, click Share. The Share your project dialog opens.
  3. In the upper-right corner, click Copy link.
The project link works only for you, collaborators who’ve accepted your invite, and members of your team who have access under the team access level for the project. If anyone else tries to use the link, they see a page where they can click Request access. To let anyone on the internet see your project, publish it as a live site instead of sharing it.

Manage project access

After you’ve invited collaborators, you can resend their invitation, remove their access, or change their role.

Resend an invitation

  1. In the upper-right corner of your screen, click Share. The Share your project dialog opens.
  2. Next to the collaborator with a Pending status, select the menu that shows their role (for example, Editor).
  3. Click Resend invite.

Change a collaborator’s role

  1. In the upper-right corner of your screen, click Share.
  2. Next to the collaborator you want to update, click the arrow next to their current role (for example, Editor).
  3. Select the role you want them to have.

Change team access to your project

Unless you change it, other team members have the default member role defined in your project settings, which is Viewer by default. If you want everyone on your team to have Editor or Co-owner access to your project, you can change the team access level.
  1. In Bolt, open your project.
  2. In the upper-right corner of the screen, click Share. The Share your project dialog opens.
  3. Under Project access, find your team name, then select the level of access you want to give your team.

Remove a collaborator

  1. In the upper-right corner of your screen, click Share. The Share your project dialog opens.
  2. Next to the collaborator you want to remove, select the menu that shows their role (for example, Editor).
  3. Click Remove.
Bolt no longer lets you share your project with anyone who has the link. If your project was already set to let anyone with the link view or edit it, that setting stays on until you turn it off.
  1. In the upper-right corner of your screen, click Share. The Share your project dialog opens.
  2. Under Project access, next to Anyone with the link can view this project or Anyone with the link can edit this project, click Turn off.
Only you, collaborators who’ve accepted your invite, and members of your team can then open your project. Anyone else who had access through the link won’t be able to see your project going forward unless you invite them. You can’t turn link sharing back on.

Troubleshooting
