What is hosting?

Hosting simply means putting your site on the internet so other people can visit it. When you “publish” a project, Bolt takes the files you’ve created and makes them available at a live web address anyone can open in their browser. Bolt hosting lets you publish your project to a live URL in seconds, with a free .bolt.host included. No third-party account of any kind is needed: Bolt handles everything.

Who can use Bolt hosting?

All Bolt users, both Free and Pro, can publish their projects to a .bolt.host domain, although custom domains are only available for Pro users.

Bolt hosting plans

Bolt offers two base levels of hosting:
  • Free – Up to 10 GB bandwidth + 333,333 requests per month, with a hard limit on traffic.
  • Pro – Up to 30 GB bandwidth + 1 million requests per month, with the ability to pay as you go to increase traffic capacity.
Screenshot comparing Bolt Free and Pro hosting plan featuress Bandwidth is the total amount of data your site sends to visitors. Requests are the number of times someone loads a page or visits your site. The Free plan typically supports around 10,000–15,000 monthly visits, depending on your site’s size and complexity. The Pro plan is better suited for production sites, landing pages, or growing products, and can often support 100,000+ visits per month for most use cases. These limits apply to your Bolt account as a whole, not per project. If you publish multiple sites, they share the same monthly bandwidth and request allowance. Actual numbers will vary depending on page size, with image-heavy sites using more bandwidth.
Pro hosting is included with every Bolt paid subscription.

Increase hosting limits

Free plan sites stop serving content once they hit their monthly data limits. When that happens, they stay offline until usage resets at the start of the next billing cycle. As a Pro plan user, you have the option to keep your sites online by using pay-as-you-go data. This lets you automatically purchase additional bandwidth and requests beyond your monthly hosting limit, up to a spending cap you set in your dashboard. Once the cap is reached, the site will pause until your usage resets. This way, you can handle sudden traffic spikes or seasonal surges while keeping your budget in control. To change your hosting limits, follow these steps: Animated GIF of process to update spending limit in Project Settings > Cloud
  1. Click the gear icon in the upper-right of your screen to open Project Settings.
  2. Click Cloud.
  3. Click Change spending limit.
  4. Enter your desired spending limit.
  5. Click Save.

Made in Bolt badge

On the Free plan, projects display a Made in Bolt badge in both preview and published sites. Upgrading to any paid plan removes the badge on your next site update and the next preview refresh. Note that changes may take a few minutes to appear due to caching.

SEO Boost

SEO Boosting creates a ready-to-go HTML version of each page ahead of time. When search engines visit your site, they get the full page instantly, making it easier to index your site and show it in search results. SEO boost means your pages will load faster for visitors and be easier for search engines to understand.
By default, SEO Boost is disabled.
To enable SEO Boost on your site, follow the steps below:
  1. Click the gear icon in the upper-right of your screen.
  2. Click Domains & hosting.
  3. Click Enable SEO Boost.

Switch from Netlify to Bolt hosting

If you’ve already published your site to Netlify, you can switch to Bolt hosting in just a few clicks. The process is the same no matter how your site was published to Netlify, but the way you manage your old Netlify version depends on how it was set up:
  • Published by Bolt to a random Netlify domain (no Netlify account connected): Bolt created a public copy of your site on a Netlify URL when you originally clicked Publish, but you have never connected a Netlify account to Bolt as an integration.
  • Published by Bolt to your own connected Netlify account: Bolt created a public copy of your site on a Netlify URL connected to your account via a Bolt integration.
To switch from Netlify to Bolt hosting, follow these steps: Animated GIF of process of switching from Netlify to Bolt hosting
  1. Click the gear icon near the top-right of your screen to open Project settings.
  2. Click Domains & hosting.
  3. Click Switch to Bolt hosting.
  4. Click Confirm hosting switch. Bolt will begin moving your hosting.
  5. Wait about a minute for Bolt to finish. You’ll see a notification that your site was deployed to a bolt.host domain.
Once the switch is complete, your site will be live on Bolt hosting. If you need the old Netlify deployment removed and it was a random URL created by Bolt without an integration, contact Bolt support. If your site was connected to your Netlify account, you can handle its removal from your Netlify dashboard.
If you were using a custom domain with your Netlify-hosted site, you’ll need to repoint that domain to your new Bolt hosting if you’ve made the switch. See Connect your domain for more information.
